Metamagical Maps of Meaning
2020-2022
The work reinterprets the tradition of cartography to reflect the geometry of
human existence - unique patterns and textures emerge that are deeply tied to
the continuous built environment of a place, to the history of a people and the
complex intertwining of urban development, destruction and renewal over many
years. Each piece draws from local cartography to represent the unique
spirit of a place. The textural fabric of Paris is reflected in the Eiffel
Tower; the Great Pyramids emerge from the chaos of Cairo in a mirror of our own
making.
material: each artwork is formed from a single continuous piece of laser-cut wood
